Musik wird oft nicht schön gefunden
Weil sie stets mit Geräusch verbunden

Shlomo, mach doch mal lauter

...war im Maulwurf ein oft gehörter Ausruf.
Zum Leidwesen der Anwohner, kam man ja auch in den Maulwurf, um laute Musik zu hören.

Es wurde mitgenickt, getanzt oder gesungen und die Lautstärke kam auch denen gelegen, die der oder dem Angebeteten, zwecks besserer Verständigung, auf die Pelle rücken wollten.
War der Laden gerappelt voll, spielte die Musikbox im Dauerbetrieb.Wer ein Lied wählen wollte, mußte sich zur Musikbox durchdrängeln und dort warten bis er an der Reihe war, wobei einige Gäste durch das endlose Studieren der Wahlmöglichkeiten nervten.

Das anschließende Warten auf die "eigenen" Titel dauerte oft auch eine Ewigkeit. Für viele war Musik eine "Glaubensfrage". Über die "Message" der Songs wurde philosophiert oder gar gestritten, und gelegentlich wurden gerade angespielte Lieder unabsichtlich oder absichtlich "weggeruckelt". Vom Personal war deshalb das Sitzen auf den Wahltasten und das Abstellen leerer oder gefüllter Gläser auf dem Sichtfenster besonders gerne gesehen. Dies und auch der Umstand, daß man in der Musikbox mehr Fremdwährung als in einer Wechselstube fand, führte unter anderem zu der Mitte der 70er Jahre vorgenommenen Umstellung auf LPs, die auf der neuen Musikanlage hinter der Theke abgespielt wurden. Bis dahin allerdings hatten die Gäste die Möglichkeit die musikalische Untermalung des Abends selbst zu gestalten, und davon wurde reichlich Gebrauch gemacht.
Die "Wurlitzer" war mit einhundert 45er Singles der unterschiedlichsten Bands und Musikrichtungen bestückt. Die Aufsteller, die Firma "Hellvoigt" und später "Berger" waren vertraglich verpflichtet, monatlich 20 neue Singles nach Wunsch gegen ältere auszutauschen, und so konnte man über die Jahre unter anderem die folgenden "Scheiben" hören:
